Here’s what we do to protect your students’ data:

We have signed the Student Privacy Pledge

Aperture Education is a proud signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge. The Student Privacy Pledge was introduced by the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) to “safeguard student privacy regarding the collection, maintenance, and use of student personal information”.  For more information, visit

About our Privacy Policy
Our approach to protecting student data is laid out in our Privacy Policy. While Privacy Policies are required by law- and therefore tend to be written by lawyers- we made sure that ours was as straightforward and free of jargon as our lawyers would allow so that our customers can understand it. Here’s a summary of our Privacy Policy as it relates to student data:

  • We only use student data to provide you with the services you have signed up for and to improve those services
  • We NEVER sell student data to third parties. Ever.
  • We DO NOT advertise to students or contact them directly except to deliver the services you have signed up for. Never Ever!
  • Our clients own all of their students’ personally identifiable information.
  • We abide by all applicable laws, including FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA and others.

We monitor changes in laws and best practices and we will periodically update our policies to remain consistent with these. When we do this, we are transparent about our changes and promptly notify customers.

We Provide a Secure System

While good policy is the foundation of student data protection, it is also important to ensure that the systems which collect and store student data are secure from unnecessary and unwanted access.

To secure your data in our system we employ many measures, but a few of the most important include:

  • We host our system in the Microsoft Azure Cloud, which has the most comprehensive compliance coverage of any cloud provider, and is trusted by businesses which store some of the world’s most sensitive data
  • All data is encrypted “at rest” (while it is stored) and “in transit” (while it is moving across the internet)
  • Our software is written by US-based developers with extensive experience in writing software for medical and financial institutions, which means they know how to secure data
  • We subject ourselves to system vulnerability assessments by third parties to learn about any areas of weakness in our system so that we can remediate these weaknesses

We Train our Staff

Even the strongest systems are vulnerable if staff are not trained well. Aperture Education staff understand the importance of protecting your students’ data and are trained and equipped with the appropriate resources to do so.

Some of the things we do to ensure our staff is well-trained include:

  • Annual training on how to protect client data, including procedures to follow in the event of a data breach
  • Computers of staff which are likely to come into contact with student data are encrypted and multi-factor authentication is utilized for accessing critical applications which may transmit data
  • Our Research and Development team is trained in research ethics and all research studies are approved by an Institutional Review Board
  • All staff who are likely to come into contact with student data are screened against federal criminal and sex offender registries
