What are Social and Emotional Skills?

The tools children and adults use to understand and manage emotions, social interactions, and every day emotional responses. We focus on the 8 SEL domains listed below, which are important in school, after school and in the workplace:

Did you know?

Strong Social and Emotional Skills are proven to…

Raise graduation rates & employability

Students who participate in evidence-based social and emotional learning (SEL) programs are 6 percent more likely to graduate from high school and 11 percent more likely to attend and graduate from college.

Increase Academic Achievement

In fact, students who participated in evidence-based SEL programs scored 13 percent higher academically than their peers, even 3.5 years after participating in the program.

Decrease negative behavior

Numerous studies link evidence-based SEL programs to decreases in suspensions and other disciplinary issues. One district in Texas even saw a more than 76 percent reduction in Out-of-School suspensions.

Help your child reach their potential.

Our mission is to ensure that children (and adults!) have the social and emotional skills to be successful, productive and happy.

We achieve this by providing schools and after-school programs with an evidence-based SEL assessment and intervention system called The DESSA Comprehensive SEL System. With the DESSA System, your child’s SEL skills are easily and accurately measured to find strengths and areas where they can improve. Research-informed activities called Growth Strategies are available within the system that students can do at school or at home.
