Educators, like students, benefit from enhanced social and emotional skills.
We expect educators to teach these important skills to students, but not all feel prepared to successfully deliver SEL programming. All educators can benefit from increasing their understanding of social and emotional learning (SEL) as well as their own social and emotional competence. Strong social and emotional skills can help educators cope with stress, create a positive classroom climate, and build caring relationships with students. These things are important for students – they are linked to better student outcomes, both academic and social-emotional. And they help educators create a classroom environment that is organized, engaged, and free from conflict or disruptions.
We’ve made it a top priority to address educators’ SEL needs. Our newest tool, the Educator Social-Emotional Reflection and Training (EdSERT) (https://apertureed.com/educator-sel/) program, is designed to enhance the social and emotional knowledge, skill set, and well-being of educators.
So much focus is placed on building students’ social and emotional competence (and rightfully so!) but educators benefit from SEL, too. Support your educators and their SEL efforts with EdSERT.
